A Negroni is the essential cocktail to both stimulate your appetite and help you digest it afterward.  It is a very simple cocktail: equal parts Campari, sweet vermouth, and London dry gin, and results in a strong, bitter, yet sweet cocktail.  Despite its simplicity, the Negroni is a variation on another drink, the Americano. Originally, the Americano was just equal parts Campari and sweet vermouth, but American tourists added soda water during Prohibition and it became known as the Americano.  Count Camillo Negroni preferred a stronger drink and requested gin in place of soda water at a cafe in Florence, Italy, and thus the Negroni was born. Finally, as delicious as a classic Negroni is, you can substitute other spirits in place of gin, like tequila, mezcal, and whiskey, and cater the cocktail to your tastes and bar supply.
